Williamson County Emergency Medical
Services has several exciting Public Education programs currently being
presented to citizens in Williamson County and the surrounding areas. These
programs are produced and taught by paramedics within the system who have
taken an active role in community education and preventive medicine. These
programs have been extremely successful and well received by the community.
Programs offered by Williamson County EMS
- Public Education are as follows:
W.H.A.L.E. – We Have A Little Emergency
This
program is demonstrated by a ten minute film of a mock collision
produced by Williamson County EMS. It is a two sticker emergency
notification system that alerts emergency responders that a small
child in a car seat may be found inside. There will be a sticker
placed in a visible area on the exterior of the vehicle. If the
car seat is inside, the second sticker (on the back of the seat)
will have vital information about the child. This will provide the
child’s name, birthday, past medical history, and emergency contact
numbers to notify family that an emergency has occurred. This video
when shown to all “new” mothers in area hospitals and any other
group of citizens will save lives.

Safety Awareness Programs
Child Care Agencies
Paramedics teach the importance of using
the 911 system, how to dial for help, and when to call . Children are given
the chance to ask questions and a tour through the ambulance. “Andy” the
ambulance, a robotic talking companion, will provide entertainment when
requested.
Child Safety Seat Inspections
This program teaches parents and guardians how to safely
buckle their children in a vehicle for maximum preservation of life. Checks
for recalls and the quality of seats are monitored as well. This
program is a collaborative effort with Georgetown Healthcare Systems.

Victims panels
In partnership with MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk
Driving) and the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office,
Williamson County EMS Public Education Programs provides DWI
awareness presentations to Drug and Alcohol offenders. Victims of
DWI incidents speak of their personal loss due to alcohol related
accidents. Williamson County participates in two area panels locally
and works closely with MADD in helping to set up panels in
surrounding areas.
The above programs are an outreach
to the community in an attempt to reduce the needless
injuries and deaths that occur here in Williamson County
and across the nation. In this day of Terrorism and
Domestic Violence, we cannot lose sight of the problems
we as a society have been fighting for years and will
continue to fight for years to come.
